The Public Domain Secret: Is it Worth your Time? – Part 6 of 7

Article by Mark Edwards

Public Domain Content are any media content that are not owned by any person or company. This state of non-ownership makes desirable for various commercial or personal applications. Because of its obscurity, only a select few have fully realized its potential use and profit. You must determine if Kneb Knebaih effectively reveals this in The Public Domain Secret (http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-special-offers-forum/35309-how-i-made-580k-using-public-domain-works.html).

There is no book that could ever satisfy every critic

Any book that presents itself as such is, under most circumstances, just after your wallet. Kneb’s The Public Domain Secret (http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-special-offers-forum/35309-how-i-made-580k-using-public-domain-works.html) e-book is not claiming this throne. Rather, it caters specifically to the needs of those looking for regular sources of high quality content to profit from.

Poor Color Theme

While the attempt to make the e-book appear written on parchment is obvious, there is no consistent color theme that make the book sections intuitive and easy to locate. The font colors and the graphics used are somewhat random, arbitrary or overdone in terms of emphasis. An more appropriate color scheme could have made the e-book intuitive and easier to navigate.

Inconsistent Text Formatting

Another concern while reading the e-book is the inconsistency of the text formatting. The reader would wonder if the required fonts are installed in his computer. Text formatting changes from chapter to chapter, section to section, paragraph to paragraph without practical reason. The encoder and designer simply used whatever text formatting felt appropriate at the moment while encoding the text. Some texts are underlined, bold, italicized, larger or different just because they looked cool.

Counter-intuitive Text Formatting

Because of the aforementioned issues in text formatting, the content was presented in a counter-intuitive manner. Its difficult to navigate from one chapter or section to another when casually browsing or jumping into a desired area. You will probably miss the page that you’re looking for at least a couple of times by 3-5 pages. Good thing is that it’s an e-book that can be searched, bookmarked or annotated digitally. The text formatting has rooms to improve on.

Absence of Text Section Conventions and Inconsistent Section Formatting

The hallmark of reputable and modern-day published books is the use of book-wide conventions such as Tips, Warning!, Fact, Try This, Note and other special text sections popularized by the Dummies and Idiot’s franchise. The e-book would have been noteworthy if it had just a few of this features. The inconsistent section formatting of the book is also a problem when referencing or skimming through its pages. The researcher can easily get lost in this high-volume work.

Some Hard-to-Read and Unreadable Texts

Because of the poorly chosen color theme, some texts are unreadable against a similar background. Imagine reading red text on a parchment background image. Some texts also have fancy fonts that are best left for poster titles. Sometimes you might wonder if your e-book reader is poorly substituting for fonts not installed in your system. A more suitable text formatting that is optimized both for screen and paper reading would’ve drastically improved its readability.

Monotonous Background Image

At first look, the look of the old, burned and tattered parchment paper background can be impressive. But after reading a few chapters, you may find this monotonous and somewhat distracting as it makes reading the material more difficult than it should. The same image was used as background for all the pages of the book. It would have been more useful if different shades or hues of even the same image was applied to distinguish one section from another.
Public Domain Content question by KrisAn: How can I find the current copyright owner of rare genealogical books, especially if the author is deceased?
My wife and I love family history and genealogy. We often run across hard-to-find genealogical records published in older rare books, sometimes self-published. We would love to find the copyright owners of these books and see if they would open it up to the public domain or a permissive license. How do we find current copyright owners, especially since most of the original authors are deceased? If we find the legal owner, what release form should they sign to allow the genealogical content or index to be made freely available on the Internet?

Public Domain Content best answer:

Answer by Wild Colonial Girl
I have had this problem myself. The only thing to do is use the
information to compile a new text. Make sure to add your own
information and credit the source of the bulk of your material.

Most of these family tree books are put out by the authors
without thought to profit. They just want to get the information
out there and maybe recoup some of their costs.

Is Public Domain Magazine Content Suitable For Your Article Marketing?

Article by Alfred Loo

How do you like if you can get free content that are suitable for your article to be posted in your blog or website?

Yes, you can make use of public domain magazine publications and you do not even have to give credit to anyone. Public domain content is any publication that is no more covered by intellectual property rights, and is available to the public for free consumption.

Unlike books, magazine is there already in its article forms and that is exactly what you are looking for. They are meant to be neat and are tightly edited. It will be of reasonably in length, not so short or it is too long so as to sustain its readers’ interest.

Magazine normally will have an enticing title, and a perfect body to match and a probing closing statement to end it. It is supposed to be in this format and is almost ready to use out of the box.

Public domain magazine, with a little bit of editing is all set for you if you are looking for contents for your e-zine articles submission. These articles in magazine which are in the public domain are all for free for you to use it, so you can take the content and put it on your blog or website and best of all you can even sell it by putting your name on it.

Magazine articles normally goes through strict editing by a variety of editors and you are assured that it would end up with a super quality piece of work. It is very rare to get an article published in a magazine that is not of the best of quality and using it in your blog or website would really make it seem that you really know what you are doing.

If you have this quality articles posted in your blog or website, your reader who read it will definitely be thinking that you know your stuff well and are sure of what you are talking about.

Knowledge would not change much over time. Just think about it, some of the better articles in public domain magazine you can find would be very much like they are tailored-made for you in your specific niche.

What are the possible ways to through?. Just for your information my webpages are designed in microsoft publisher.

thanks a lot in advance to all techos’

Public Domain Content best answer:

Answer by dapolbear
There are a few ways in doing forms on a website. One of the most common is to use a PERL script or other form of CGI. You will need to check with your hosting company to see what you are allowed to do.

You can also use Frontpage and ASP. I have not done personally, but have seen it.

Public Domain Content
Ben Huh, founder of the popular Cheezburger Network websites, told Mashable on Thursday he was “very surprised” when he learned the day before that GoDaddy, where his company has registered more than a thousand domain names, had come out in full public …

Public Domain Content question by papillons rock!: How can you use wired internet for one program eg Firefox and wireless for another eg a torrent program?Thank?
Basically when i download large torrent files from Vuze (always public domain content) at around 200kbps my isp (virgin media) cuts the download rate to about 10kbps after a few hours to “allow other users to have high speeds” ie i’m being selfish. So essentially i want to be able to use my wired internet for normal browsing and i want to use his wireless for downloading torrents in Vuze.
I hope i have made enough sense for you to understand.
I am good with computers but a bit of a noob when it comes to this level of networking so any help would be much appreciated.
Thank You

Answer by an swers
You might be able to install a virtual PC on your pc and then let that use the different network.

I’d think a better suggestion would be to limit the torrent speed initially so virgin doesn’t cut your rate at all.

Free Content from the Public Domain – Another Beginner’s Introduction from a Recent Beginner

Article by Nigel Barker

Like most people who start trying to make money on the Internet we asked the question “what can we sell that will make money?” – and started looking around!

And boy, did we find a lot! All kinds of products, from cheap-and-cheerful and frankly really naff to the high-end expensive stuff that no doubt would sell well but is in such a competitive market sector that you would be up against the “big guns” of the Internet Marketing world. However, there is another alternative that with skill and a bit of luck can provide a rich vein of content to mine for free!

This particular resource is known as the “public domain”, although in the United Kingdom where we are based the term “public domain” actually has no legal standing. However, the term serves to define content, either available online or offline, that for whatever reason is not subject to copyright and is therefore available for anyone to pick up and publish as their own work.

So how does this come about? There are several reasons, the two most common being a) that the work concerned was created long ago and the copyright it acquired at the time of creation has since expired or b) the author or creator of the work did not claim or instigate copyright when the work was first created.

Works whose copyright have expired include most works (but not all – take care!) first published before 1923. This therefore includes the works of William Shakespeare, classic literature such as the novels of Jane Austen and indeed more recent classic authors such as H G Wells. There is also a wealth of material on almost any subject you can think of, for instance 18th and 19th century textbooks concerning herbal medicine that in our 21st century would be sought after! However, where the heirs and descendants of the original author have renewed the copyright the works concerned do not fall into the public domain and such works are therefore not available for us to use. The best known example of this is the Tarzan novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs which although written before 1923 are still subject to copyright.

The second category, works not subject to copyright when created, is a much more delicate area. Most of the output of the United States Government is not subject to copyright and is therefore available to use as content. One good example is the US Government site on identity theft. In some cases the author or creator fails to establish copyright at the time, as was the case with a Hollywood studio that missed the copyright statement from the credits of a film, thereby consigning the entire work to the public domain! However, as a general rule works first published after 1923 may well be still subject to copyright and therefore off limits as far as creating products for Internet marketing are concerned.

There are many online sources of public domain content, probably the two best know being Project Gutenberg and Alibris. Project Gutenberg has over 19,000 works available in downloadable formats, most of which are in the public domain (including the works of Shakespeare and Jane Austen!), and includes a wealth of material going back several hundred years that provides a rich seam of material to mine for creating products. However, a small word of warning: Gutenberg being based in the United States has information with each work concerning its copyright status within the US but NOT in other countries around the world. While it would be a fair bet that older works would not be subject to copyright outside the US, care must be taken using US public domain material elsewhere in the world.

Public domain information is great stuff to use: you can use the works complete, adding your own preface and title, and you then have a brand new product that now carries your copyright! Alternatively you can “mix and match” information to create the product that suits your purpose. In the example earlier you could research several works on herbal medicine from previous centuries and combine the information into a new work of “Herbal Medicine Through the Ages”, again acquiring new copyright in the process.

Don’t forget the first rule of Internet Marketing though – check that there is a MARKET before creating or trying to sell any products! It would be crazy to create and try to market the herbal medicine product if no-one is interested in buying it! Assessing the market will be covered in a future “Beginners Introduction” article.

Public Domain Content question by webdemonOO: Without violating copyright or any laws how can I post on a public domain, a sreenshot of a video game?
For example if I used an analog camera then develop it, then it’s photograph is not digital. But then if I were to post it on the Internet, I would have to scan it, so then it would be converted to a digital form. Is the image still considered the original owner’s digital content and copyrighted material? What if I were to reflect the screen onto a mirror (example) then take a picture of it then modify it. (I know it wouldn’t work but in theory)

I know since it would not be for a commercial purpose or anything, the video game distributor would most likely not care; as there are already millions of people who just captured their screen on PC; but I would like to not violate any copyright or digital rights of the company. Thanks.
My concern is with the law; not ethics in this case.

I would like for someone to explain to me the rules/guidelines that must be followed, for example; purpose of distribution or its format etc.

Answer by Love & Learn
I can’t see how it would be since it is not for commercial purposes.

In October 2008, announced that the Federal Reserve will purchase $ 600.000.000.000 debt as short-term money market funds to increase their liquidity and ability to respond to refund requests. Note that I only use the information without having to copy or quote. To quote the article in the NYT as a source to avoid plagiarism and copy the exact words to avoid copyright infringement. Incidentally, the part quoted above is a fair use, since it is for educational purposes.

From all these web hosting providers it has become quite difficult for me to choose the one that is best as each hosting company has their own rules, plans, offers, and price. Before making any choice I was going through the technicality of the website and go to know about various things like about disk space, bandwidth allocation etc. there are two type of web hosting shared web hosting and dedicated web hosting from which I choose dedicated web hosting, as it is very advantageous when compared to others.
I wanted to expand my business in a bigger way, so I felt choosing the dedicated web hosting would be beneficial as it can handle the higher traffic as there want be any sharing of bandwidth. I before making any contract with the web hosting service provider read the details of their service carefully and found it interesting and then choose them to host my business. This includes the $ 37 value of Mass Control Revealed written by Frank Kern about influencing people’s actions. Another is the Niche Fishing Course with Videos and Audio about Niche Marketing authored by Vondre’ Whaley for a $ 99 value.
Case Studies of 12 Companies Successful from using Public Domain Content

As a proof of the pudding, actual case studies of about 12 household names who gained commercial success from Public Domain Content (http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-special-offers-forum/35309-how-i-made-580k-using-public-domain-works.html) are also mentioned to further illustrate the profitability of this enterprise. You may not have realized it before, but Public Domain has been feeding giant corporations and entities since time immemorial. You too can have a share of this unexploited resource.

There is no perfect book that could possibly meet everybody’s expectation

Anyone who claims that his or her book is faultless is probably just hyping you to hand over your hard-earned money. The Public Domain Secret (http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-special-offers-forum/35309-how-i-made-580k-using-public-domain-works.html) is no exemption to this reality. Since the author is not an expert full-time writer, some technical and physical aspects are not completely polished.

Absence of a Professionally Designed Book Cover

The first flaw that you will encounter with the book is the absence of a professionally designed book cover. If this e-book were to be published on paper, it would lack a nice-looking book cover to attract bookworms. It would probably be unsold most of the time. Upon purchasing the e-book, it doesn’t give you that satisfying feeling that you own a real book. It feels just like buying a draft copy.

Absence of a Professionally Designed e-Book Cover

A book is assessed by its cover and an e-book is appraised by its e-cover. Aside from lacking a book cover. You also won’t find any catchy e-cover anywhere in the webpage. You will feel like buying a manuscript instead. There is no fancy e-cover to entice you to take a peek behind the pages. Nothing. Just the sales copy package on the webpage.

Poor Page Layout

Just from scanning the pages or browsing the headings, you will quickly notice the poor lay-out of the pages. The page numbers are all in the lower right corner. Chapters start and finish with no blank pages between them. All book formalities are omitted – there is no acknowledgement, no preface, no foreword, no bibliography. Just the title page, copyright page, comic strips, Public Domain (http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-special-offers-forum/35309-how-i-made-580k-using-public-domain-works.html) graphics, a table of contents and the content proper.

San Diego Institutions Acquire Domain Names With Adult-Content Suffix

Public Domain Content question by vns: Question about Public Domain information.?
I’m in the middle of a dispute with someone over use of their “image & likeness” on my website. Last year I complied with her request and removed all of it but I allowed viewers of my site to express their opinions of this woman for being so stubborn. Last week she contacted me again saying I was slandering her and again demanded to be removed. This woman’s personal information is ALL OVER the internet including IMDB and Wikipedia and 100s of other fan sites. Im the only one to ever comply with her demands. I have been told that she is part of the “public domain” so she has no right to demand removal. My question is how does the pubic domain work and what does it mean? How do I find out if her likeness truly is part of the public domain and how much can I publish without getting in trouble. At this point I’m content just to leave this woman off my site but I would still like to know more about this legal “loop hole” in our society. Any info of advice. Thank you.
FYI. The women in question is a former wrestler. I have a website about wrestling which includes 3500 profiles of wrestlers new and old. The profile I had posted on this woman was nothing slanderous, it merely detailed her career in the wrestling business and included a series of photographs (not copyrighted to her).
